What is All the Fuss About?
Korean “hallyu” stars have stolen the spotlight in the entire Asian region, including China, Japan and Taiwan. The New York Times has recently called the “hallyu” star Bae Yong-jun a “2.3 billion dollar man,” and an influential Japanese weekly “Munye Chunchu” disparaged South Korean actress Choi Ji-woo, writing in its New Year edition, “Is Choi Ji-woo a Yankee queen?"
KBS TV2’s “In-Depth 60 Minutes” will air a special two-part edition on the Korean pop-culture frenzy in Asia and its impact as a national brand on Jan. 12. The first part, called “2005 Hallyu Field Report: What is All the Fuss About?,” will feature an in-depth analysis of the “hallyu” phenomenon in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan and Taipei, Taiwan, which has incidentally resumed direct flights to Korea for the first time in 12 years.
